What can I say about the taste of the sea? firstly the views are to die for, absolutely stunning ( even in November ) the house itself was clean, spacious, warm and plenty utensils for cooking, the log burner was great and all the items in the house worked a treat. If you fancy a trip north in Skye , you won’t be disappointed to book the taste of the sea

Perfect Getaway
This is a great place to stay. Ben has really been great. Our family had been looking for our first getaway since Covid and being a large family, needed a place that can cater our needs. Ben had been really accommodating to provide us that, the property itself was immaculately clean and is perfectly located actually (within 5 minutes to Quarang, 20 minutes to Old man of Storr, 30 minutes to Portree). The location has some fantastic views so even if you want to stay in for a day or two after a long drive (12 hours for us), it gives you everything you need! It was easy to find on the Navigation as well and good mobile network signals (at least on EE). I'd highly recommend and definitely come back!

Our amazing stay on Skye!
Our stay at the Taste of the Sea was simply perfection. The location is just stunning. We were greeted with a lovely bottle of wine! The home was absolutely lovely! We had some troubles getting out because of a flat tire and the host, Cat, dropped everything to help us get to our car and made sure we’d have groceries and transportation in case our car was indisposed. She was the epitome of hospitality and warmth! Thank you!! Thank you!!! We will come back again!

Really enjoyed our stay at Taste of the Sea. Lovely views out over the water. Rooms were quite comfortable though the beds were a bit smaller than we have at home. Shower were good in the en-suites, but for the water in the shower in the main bathroom it was difficult to control the temperature of the water. It was either scalding hot or cold. The main light didn’t work in the smaller of the double bedrooms - probably needed a bulb. There was also a bulb gone in the bedside light in larger double room. It would be really handy to place a mirror near a plug socket so you can see what you’re doing when drying your hair. The mirror in the en-suite steamed up so it wasn’t easy to shave after a shower. It would be useful to have a hook in the bathroom to hang dressing gowns etc. There was plenty of hot water, and the house was warm. There’s plenty of space generally. The kitchen was fairly well stocked with pans and utensils. The oven, hob and dishwasher worked well, as did the washing machine and tumble dryer. It would be useful to have somewhere to hang coats in the utility room when you come into the house. The chairs at the dining table in the kitchen were a tad low for adults sitting at the table and we ended up putting cushions on the chairs to bring ourselves up to a more comfortable level. It would be worse for children. We did comment on arrival about the bush overhanging the drive which made it awkward for large cars to get past without scratches, which was dealt with a few days later. We had bikes which we were able to store safely in the storeroom outside when not in use. We noticed a lot of Asda delivery vehicles whilst on Skye and think it would be a good idea to suggest to potential future visitors to organise a grocery delivery for their arrival, especially as there isn’t really a handy shop nearby. Another idea would be to offer the option of a welcome basics pack at an extra cost of things like milk and bread. Would recommend this accommodation.

The location of this place was great. Very close to the Quiraing hike, and all the sites on that north-eastern peninsula of Skye (like Fairy Glenn, Kilt Rock, etc.) Also the sheep surrounding the place are very cool to watch. The scenery out the windows is amazing. Unfortunately, the beach visible from the house is not easily accessible. The place was very clean and comfortable with lots of space. This ended up being the largest place we stayed at our whole vacation for a family of 5.

This little house was a dream! Our little family of four stayed there for a few days and we loved it! This house is so clean and modern and it has the most amazing views. Old man Stor hike is fairly close. It’s not terribly far from Portree. The roads are single roads to get there which was a bit crazy for us, and we made it there the first night after dark .. with no cell service and dark roads, it was a challenge. So I don’t recommend that ha! When we got there we were so happy with the house, and the next morning we saw the beautiful ocean view and sheep! Love the serenity of it all- we wanted to stay longer! Would totally recommend!!!

We are a family of 8 who stayed for a few nights in early September. We have totally enjoyed the place. The house is clean and neat. The kitchen is well equiped and the living room radiates the warmth as pictured. The bedrooms are very sizable and comfortable and the bathrooms are clean and spacious. Everyone had a very good rest. Being city people, we liked the spaciousness of the place and the location, and we get to experience farm animal grazing nearby. Staffin area is further up north, food choices are lesser, but we managed well with the supplies sourced from Portree. However, it is a great place to start the morning to visit Quiraing, Kilt Rock and Lealt Falls before the tourist buses start rolling in.

Our family of 7 had such a wonderful stay at A Taste of the Sea. The views of the sea from the home are outstanding. The kitchen had everything we needed to make home cooked meals virtually every day. We very much enjoyed the french press in the morning, cozy evenings by the fireplace, the towel heaters and amazing water pressure in the showers. The hosts were very communicative and checking in and out was easy. We would definitely stay here again. Thank you for a lovely stay!

This is a lovely apartment and the views are spectacular-I will miss waking up to that view every morning. Perfect for a getaway with friends or family. We felt very comfortable during our stay-all of the rooms were well sized and very clean, which made us feel at ease. The surroundings are very calming and it feels quite private. Communication with the host in the lead up was excellent - quick responses and nothing was too much trouble. The local recommendations were appreciated too. Overall I would highly recommend if you’re looking for a relaxing stay in Skye.

Honestly, she’s the best host I’ve ever had! We had some car difficulties and she went significantly out of her way to help us get things settled and made sure we had all we needed. She knows everyone and everything about Skye! She was a great resource for all our questions. She also had to help us get our covid tests to us which was also a huge help but an inconvenience for her. Honestly I can’t say enough good things about our stay in this meticulously immaculate, drop dead gorgeous home!

The location is great – stunning drive past the Old Man of Storr on the way, and stellar views of the sea when you get there, from both kitchen and living room. We spent a lot of time with binoculars standing at the windows, and watched lambs being born in the fields. You can also see the island where sea shepherds used to swim their cattle between grazings. The beach you can see from the windows wasn’t accessible via the fields – we had to walk some way down the hill and then along a track for that, so you can’t just nip down there for ten minutes. The rooms are light, clean and warm, with comfy beds and plenty of clean towels, shampoo, soap, dishwasher and laundry tablets, etc, and lots of room in the kitchen cupboards to store food. It’s good to have a utility room, with space for dirty shoes, etc. While the views are just amazing, the house doesn’t have the homely feel that you get with some properties of a similar price; it feels as if it’s been kitted out to let on a budget, rather than tried-and-tested by owners, and there are overlooked details that were a bit irritating. (Nothing big enough to call out a property manager for, but things that could easily be sorted for future guests: there were plenty of pans and serving dishes, but no cheese grater or table mats/trivets for hot food, and the kitchen chairs are too low for the table, so the kids had to kneel up to eat with us. The instructions were for a different log burner, and there weren’t any coat hooks, which is a bit of an oversight for a holiday location that’s likely to see rain. (The lack of coat hooks, and the issue with the table/chairs was raised in a review on a different site back in December 2021.) Skye itself is utterly stunning. We’d particularly recommend the Misty Isle Boat Trip from Elgol – definitely worth the long and winding single-track road.

Highly recommended for families or couples! Negative: The 1st day we noticed a sewage smell from one of the bedroom bathrooms. Turns out all it needed was to run the water in the shower to run water through the shiwer and it was sorted so not a problem after all!!

Positive: What did we like? Everything! The rooms, kitchen and bathrooms were very clean, beds comfortable, rooms well maintained and spacious with 2 ensuites. The view was fantastic from the living room and kitchen. Parking is more than enough for 3 cars. Ben, the property manager was very helpful, professional, friendly and went out of his way when we asked for colouring pencils for the children. I will book the Taste of the Sea property when visiting the Isle of Skye again. Can't praise it enough. Negative: Nothing to complain.

A lovely cottage
This cottage was about half an hour north of Portree, very close to some iconic Skye hikes like Old Man and Quiraing. The north end of the peninsula is lovely, the house has an amazing unobstructed view of the beach below. comfortable, modern, great communication with the property manager.

A clean and silent place with a beautiful view, but overpriced
Great place to stay with a group up to 8 persons. Clean, 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a big kitchen and separate living room. The biggest asset is the unique amazing view over the bay. We did stay with a family of 4 adults, only using half of the beds. The double bed in the biggest room however was simply too soft and small and delivered a disappointing experience of a first night having hardly any sleep because of touching the bottom of the matras ( I am only 78kg so that is never an issue). The next 2 nights we have slept apart by using other unused beds. Furthermore we had a leaking sink in the bathroom so that we had a wet floor. We paid close to €600 per night (1800€ for 3 nights) and as a consequence we believe, despite of the clean space and amazing view, this accommodation is simply overpriced, especially for a smaller group.

We had a marvellous time at Taste of the Sea in Staffin Bay. The property is recently renovated snd stylishly decorated. The kitchen-dining is large & well equipped, a perfect gathering space for meals. There is a separate utility which is ideal as a dumping ground for shoes, bags & coats, so that was a bonus. The lounge with 3 large sofas & wood burner was comfortable & had the best views down to the bay and sunrise & sunset. With 3 full bathrooms, no one had to share or wait. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Thank you for creating such a fab family friendly space.

The kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals. Nice and easy check-in with a key lock-box on the house and easy communication with the host for a couple questions we had about the area. Daffodils were blooming all around the property while we were there at the end of March. Sheep grazing nearby with a perfect curved beach view. Close to Quiraing, An Corran, and Man of Storr. Kitchen was huge (picture doesn’t do it justice), bathrooms were perfectly clean. We had an issue with the washer and dryer and property manager resolved immediately so we could keep up with laundry. Tons of space with 4 bedrooms and 3 full baths. The living room was a great place to hang out, run the wood stove, and read or play board games after a busy day of hikes. We were a family of 4 with a 3 and 8 year old. This is a truly liveable home…not just a short term rental. You could stay here for months very comfortably. Only (slight) drawback…it became a haul to get home when traveling to the west side of Skye. Roads are small and lots of potholes on Skye. Staying closer to Portree may be easier…but this was way more peaceful and beautiful. Thank you for such a great time on Skye. Best family adventure of our lives!
