Just had 4 excellent days staying in this beautiful house and location and would definitely rush back. Location and cleanliness are top notch. One downside...The Stein Inn is unfortunately closed, which is a shame as a wee wander down the hill to the pub would have topped a great stay.

A true getaway
We have spent a marvellous three nights at SaltWinds. We wanted for absolutely nothing; the house is thoughtfully and tastefully furnished, impeccably clean and so cosy against the incoming Skye autumn. We will be delighted to return!

Beautiful house
Stayed here for a few days after leaving accommodation in Portree. Obviously much more remote but what a stunning house - main open plan living-room & kitchen is superb and every bedroom has an en suite. In a great setting with views over to Harris when the mist allows! We were lucky enough to get into The Stein Inn on our last night. If you could be sure of a table there every night we’d stay for a week!

A magical week at Salt Winds!
Salt Winds was the perfect base to explore this beautiful island. Waternish is definitely 'where Skye meets sky'! Whatever the weather, the view from the property is jaw dropping. Perfectly situated for sunsets, the outer Hebrides in the distance on a clear day, all from the comfort of a spacious yet cosy house. We'll be back, as we want to see the Northern Lights!

Spectacular location and fantastic views from the property rooms. Very well equipped property especially the kitchen. If ever in the area would not hesitate to stay at Salt Winds again and can also recommend the nearby Loch Bay restaurant. Unbeatable, the best stay ever.
Perfect location with the most magnificent views. Surprisingly spacious, really well proportioned and extremely comfortable bedrooms and common areas, with plenty of storage space and an extremely well equipped kitchen. Cosy and warm, beautifully decorated and thoughtfully kitted-out. Couldn’t want for more, one of the best places I have ever stayed anywhere.

Primo stay in a beautiful setting
We had a wonderful time at Salt Winds. The house is easy to find and very well equipped for any length stay. Host is quick to respond though we only really needed to let him know how wonderful the trip was. Any additional information we needed (grocery shopping, activity recommendations) was promptly provided. Close to a pub and two excellent restaurants (within walking distance) and with incredible scenic walks out the front door and longer hikes a reasonable drive away, we were able to enjoy Skye as we had hoped. Salt Winds has everything you need for a memorable and flawless getaway.

Out of the way and out of this world, my wife and I and our adult son and wife just spent three heavenly days at Salt Winds in Waternish. Our first trip to Isle of Skye, it was the perfect base camp for days filled with walks, hikes, and the like. Spectacular views from this modern, nicely decorated and comfortable house. The Danish concept of “hygge” come to mind. And convenient to two charming places to eat, Loch Bay Restaurant and the Stein Inn pub. Highly recommended.

Amazing views but quite remote
Hands down one of the nicest rentals yet- and we have stayed in hundreds. Everything is absolutely pristine. Bed are comfortable. The views are better than the pictures But this part of the island is quite remote. When we came (in august), there were no reservations available at any restaurants- and i tried booking two weeks in advance. There’s a grocery store about 15-20 mins away so we ate pre made sandwiches each day (I don’t want to cook on vacations!). Not the best. If you’re up for cooking, stunning views, peace and quiet- this is definitely the place for you. It’s absolutely the most beautiful scenery I’ve ever seen

Saltwinds is a home from home, high functioning throughout and very comfortable for 6 adults and a toddler and two dogs - a marvellous holiday - one to remember - enjoyed local seafood collected from the boat at the pier just down the road and lovely local coffees in the yurt at the Skyeskins shop close by

Our party of 5 (3 adults and 2 children aged 3 and 8) had a memorable and comfortable trip to Skye and enjoyed every moment on the isle as well as in the house. Despite the best efforts of the terrible weather during our stay the house provided a wonderful base to explore the isle as well as warm and spacious luxury after long days of adventure. The house has all the mod-cons you'd expect and we found everything in full working condition. The showers/baths were hot and had good pressure, the kitchen was a joy to cook in, the washer/dryer was pretty essential during our visit and we all appreciated the effort Tom made in providing a satellite internet connection. We were greeted with a bottle of wine and some delicious fresh eggs both of which were put to good use and Tom has provided clear instructions throughout the house that make it really easy to settle in. A selection of board games was put to good use and the boys spent a long time staring out into the bay with the binoculars provided. Tom also left a handy folder of laminated hikes for a range of abilities. The house is about 10 minutes walk from Stein which has a rock beach to explore and 2 restaurants. We also found it easy to travel to Dunvegan (restaurants, castle and the beautiful Coral Beach) as well as Portree which has many amenities. Tom provided us a lot of information about the house, the surrounding area and Skye which made booking the house a very easy decision. Our only issue was that 3 days was not enough time to explore and we'd all like to go back for a week in the future! Thank you Tom and thank you Skye.

Beautiful views (10/10) and home decor (10/10). Slightly further away from the water (7/10) than we first thought but it was a nice walk (5/10). Clean and comfy bedrooms (10/10). High-quality bathrooms throughout with more stunning views (master bedroom sunrise for instance whilst you have a shower was amazing), plenty of hot water. Kitchen was well equipped and to a superb standard (10/10). Decent heating (appeared to be a renewable air source heat pump) + a log fire (with supplied wood) meant we were never cold (10/10). Local pub (Stein Inn) - good selection of drinks (130 whiskies) and friendly staff (7/10). Food was average at best (3/10). They did have a 32amp charger for our electric car though which was great. Chef ends at 8pm which we thought was a little early. Local Restaurant (Loch Bay) - Delicious food (7/10), we sneaked in on an early booking and food was great. Set menu of £37.50pp or £55pp. Local Restaurant (Edinbane Inn) - Good food (5/10), slightly strange staff (didn't tell us that multiple items on the menu weren't available until we ordered, went for a smoke after we had ordered drinks) but the food was good. It's about 8 miles at least to the pub which doesn't seem much but on the country lanes it soon adds up, especially when it's foggy and dark. We took a drive around Portree > Old Man of Storr > Staffin > Quiraing > Uig > Edinbane > Back to house and we saw Otters, Seals, various birds of prey, waterfalls, mountains etc. Well worth a drive or if feeling adventurous a walk (9/10) We also visited 'The Oyster Shed' at Carboost (near Tallisker Distillery) and found the food a little overpriced for such a basic business idea (6/10). Unfortunately, the neighbours are currently building a property so we had the noise of builders on a few of the days (whilst we were outside) but this wasn't a major issue. It is a shame the new house will be so close to SaltWinds. We will return again, I just hope you install a car charger for our electric car as it would make the house just that little bit more special and easier to access. Thank you

Beautiful house, beautiful landscape, beautiful kitchen with everything you need, beautiful furniture and fireplace....everything was fantastic! I cannot ask more! Down from the house, there is small town it has good pub and restaurant. Although very far away location, minimum needs are all there. One minor difficulty I had was my mobile was out of service. It was roaming phone, but the service was link to either Vodaphone, 3 or Tmobile, but seems all three didn't work. Anyway it was no big deal, we could just enjoy there. Thanks Tom for the fabulous house! Anyone considering this place? Very Strongly recommended!!

We truly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful, spacious and clean place. Check-in was super easy with the lock box and very convenient since we didn't arrive till late in the evening. The location is excellent and only a quick ride/hike away from some of the great sights on Skye. Tom provided a folder with hiking routes, places to eat, etc. and everything else we needed to know to make the most of our holiday. We already miss this place and hope to come back soon.

This house is really truly fabulous. Sparkling clean, modern, great linens & kitchen supplies... everything you need to be comfortable and enjoy your vacation. We enjoyed the immediate area a lot and had nice little walks down to the beach, Lochbay Restaurant, Stein Inn and Skye Skyns. And it was a great spot to use as a base to explore the rest of the island. Skye is beautiful, in general, but I think my favorite views are from this house... they are really truly stunning. It is even prettier than the pictures! We really loved it here and would return in a heartbeat!

To enjoy all that Skye has to offer and come home to Salt Winds in Waternish is truly special. We always made a point of getting home for sunsets, and down to the Stein Inn for a drink or incredible meal. The kitchen, the wood stove, the lovely bathrooms, and the open living space make it perfect for family and friends - private space and sharing. Tom is a great host, and being able to bring our labrador made it even better.

Wer eine stylisch und modern eingerichtete Unterkunft mit nahezu perfekter Ausstattung (u.a. tolle offene Küche, Kamin mit "echtem" Holzfeuer) und einem unglaublichen Meerblick total Abseits der üblichen Touristenrouten sucht, ist hier genau richtig. Bequem zu Fuss zu erreichen sind ein Pub mit sehr freundlicher Bedienung und ein Sternelokal, das aber zu unserem Leidwesen während unseres Aufenthaltes Betriebsferien hatte - daher ist leider keine Bemerkung hierzu möglich. Die Abgeschiedenheit und Ruhe hat allerdings ihren Preis: Die nächsten Supermärkte sind 12 km (Dunvegan) bzw. 35 km (Portree) entfernt. Ansonsten ein absoluter Traum und nur zu empfehlen!

Tom’s place is stunning. We had more amenities than we could ask for, the view is jaw dropping and the space is so well maintained. We were pleasantly surprised at how nice and toasty the space stays even with all the windows. It was cold and windy, but we got to enjoy Skye with the fire going . Quick trip to Talisker and dunvegan for things to do.

Brilliant comms from the team that manage the property, and everything doneto make it all so easy for us. We had an amazing time in this stunning b&b. The views are incredible and the seating areas well thought out so you can enjoy them. The place was spotless on arrival and communication very easy. We got walking to the lobster fisherman in Stein (who then delivered some of his catch to our door) and a large pot was delivered to us that afternoon so we could cook them. Extremely comfortable place with everything you could need. Lovely to have the fire while enjoying the views. Walking distance to the Stein Inn and option of getting lobsters delivered to the door! An absolutely stunning house with beautiful views. Despite the wind and rain that Skye threw at us, the house was warm and cosy. When we did get a sunset you can take it all in from the deck or the comfort of the sofa. Cot and high chair was ready for us on arrival and the welcome bottle of wine was a treat after a long drive with the kids.

Great location in a remote part of Skye, very nice house with lovely views over Loch Bay. Well furnished and extremely comfortable especially with the wood burning stove. More than enough room for six of us (3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms). Be mindful the road and driveway (off camber and gravel) are quite steep to access the property by car if you have low clearance. Email communication was very informative and helpful though a minor point that I did not get any reply to my messages until after we left when using the Airbnb Inbox. The house is just up from Stein and easy walking distance to the Inn and restaurant for food and drink. In all I would highly recommend for those looking for a place to stay on the island.

A beautiful home that was a perfect home base on the Isle of Skye. We loved our three nights at Saltwinds. The home is every bit as beautiful as the pictures, and the view from every room is spectacular. With three days of rain, we loved how the large windows made it feel like we were outside even while we were warm and dry inside. The location was perfect for seeing the rest of Skye…it was far enough away to be private while close enough that dinner in Dunvegan or Portree was a reasonable drive. Finally, we appreciated the space between the bedrooms and the fact that each bedroom had its own bathroom and shower…after a week of feeling like we are right on top of our travel companions, we appreciated the extra privacy and space this home offered.

The open space is the best part of the house, we were able to cook and socialize at any time and the view was stunning at any weather. The communication is prompt and clear. WiFi works but none of our mobile data works. But there is a landline installed (we didn't use it) but presumably should be for local calls. The utilities and facilities are all in good condition and we'll equipped. Will return again at a different season!

Salt Winds is a perfect place to stay. We enjoyed every moment. The home has everything that you would need, including full kitchen with dishwasher, pantry, washer/dryer, wonderful living room space, three spacious bedrooms, and four bathrooms. The home is walking distance to the Stein Inn and Loch Bay, both of which we ate at. The views are breathtaking. There are no better views on Skye. Positive: The accommodation was first class in an outstanding location. The property was spacious, well equipped and comfortable. The views from the deck and interior were simply stunning and its orientation meant that we enjoyed glorious sunsets over the Outer Hebrides. All in all, we had a fabulous holiday at Salt Winds and would not hesitate to recommend this property. Negative: Minor issues included a slightly temperamental TV volume control and an out of date refuse collection notice which caught us out so that we missed one of the refuse collection days. Also, the house could get uncomfortably warm in the glorious sunshine we enjoyed.

Thank you for a very relaxing & comfortable stay. We travelled as a group of four and the property suited our needs perfectly; it would easily accommodate six too without feeling crowded. The views from all rooms were just stunning, from sunrises & sunsets to star gazing at night. The property is well insulated with triple glazing so even on a chilly November night, the underfloor heating maintained a comfortable temperature with the bonus of a wood burner for extra heat. Every detail seemed to have been catered for including rain showers in the en-suites, amble storage with walk in wardrobes, a coat & boot area with bench, a utility & drying room, very comfortable seating & dining area… I could go on! Location wise was perfect, yes it’s fairly remote but that’s the beauty of it. However all of Skye’s key attractions (Fairy Pools, Coral Beach, Quairang mountain range, Portree etc) are within 30 mins to an hour’s drive with breathtaking scenery all along the island. Thank you once again!

Beautiful property with everything we needed. The views from the living area and all bedrooms were breathtaking, from sun rises & sunsets to star gazing at night. The attention to detail was just perfect, with rain showers in all en-suites, a boot & coat area with bench, utility and drying room.. I could go on. Location wise was ideal for exploring the island with all main sights within 30 mins to an hour away. A definite home away from home, we did not want to leave!

A tablet showing us what to do and where to go in the area, videos of host showing us how to use the television and washing machine, also polite signage of how to use sliding doors and windows. Remote, but delightful setting
We very much enjoyed the views from Salt Winds and were able to explore most of Skye during the week we were there. A few things were not quite as expected, but the response from Skye Serviced Accommodation was instant and the problems were resolved within hours. They take great care of their clients, and we appreciated that.

We stayed at Saltwinds for 3 nights in May. The house was very nice and the view was amazing. The host prepared nearly everything for us to use during our holiday. The house was quite far from most attractions we had planned to see. But if you want somewhere peaceful and quiet this is the place for you. We took the opportunity to discover some of the surrounding area which also offers amazing, underrated walks. On the first day, I had a problem contacting the host via Airbnb as I had forgotten my password, and to reset it required sending a text message - to my phone in Thailand. The contact details given were phone numbers, and I had no phone signal at all in the area (on the Giffgaff network). However we managed to get around this eventually (and discovered that there is a land line in the house!). But this is not really the fault of the host. My recommendation would be make sure you are logged into the Airbnb app before you travel!.

We have a wonderful holiday on Skye. Salt Winds locates at a great location with beautiful sunset view everyday! The house is comfortable but facilities can be improved because a blind on one of the full length window in the living room is missing, a light bulb is missing. We end up changed 2 9V batteries to the smoke alarms in and outside the Twin Room due to noise came off during the night.

Beautiful, remote, and cosy!
Positive: The property is beautiful, in an incredible location, cosy, with wonderful facilities, and super clean. The views really take your breath away. There's underfloor heating throughout and each room has its own control, which is fantastic. The layout of the bedrooms is brilliant too. We stayed with some friends - they had a 1-year old baby and we had a 1-year old puppy. Neither of us could hear each other on different ends of the property! Each room is en-suite too. Beds are super comfortable, and the kitchen is well-equipped. Negative: The only problem we had was that the WiFi didn't work for our entire 5-day stay. This appeared to be a provider (BT) problem and, therefore, out of the host's hands. I haven't reflected this in my review but I thought it was worth mentioning to warn future guests. In some ways, it was actually quite nice to be internet-less and there were plenty of DVDs in the house (and thankfully we had brought our own board games!). However, we did struggle to contact the host during our stay to let them know about this issue because there was no WiFi and none of us had phone signal at the property, despite being on different networks. I went to the local pub and called/messaged the host phone numbers on day 1 but got no response. On day 2, I called again while we were out and about, and they said they would look into it. I called again later that day to get an update, and they informed me it was a BT issue and out of their hands. On day 4, the services host dropped off a 4G router to try and fix the problem but unfortunately, this didn't work either (probably because there wasn't any phone signal!) The WiFi being down overall only affected our stay because we had planned for it to be working (and so hadn't pre-planned our journeys, hadn't downloaded playlists, etc...) This isn't the host's fault and so I haven't reflected this in my review. However, I did struggle to get hold of the hosts to report the issue (despite receiving many helpful messages from them before our stay) and it took a while to find a potential solution, which transpired actually not to be a solution. In future, I think it would be worth warning guests that (1) there is a risk the WiFi won't be working, to allow them to pre-plan a little, and (2) that they might not have any phone signal at all.

Stayed at Salt Winds in early October with three generations - what an experience! The house is beautifully appointed and there are incredible views from every room. It faces west and we were able to see unreal sunsets 3 of the 4 nights we were there. The kitchen is well stocked and each room has its own bathroom and closet (rare in the UK). The house is fairly remote, but that's part of the experience! The little "town" of Waternish is lovely and the nearby pub the Stein is one of the best dining experiences we've ever had - definitely make a reservation! Really can't say enough good things about this property. If you're considering a Skye vacation and this house is available, look no further!!

What a wonderful stay here. Great location and the setting is gorgeous and the views are amazing. Short walk to waterfront on country road down to the charming Stein Inn Pub for lunch and dinner (make reservations). Wished we had spent a week or two! Highly recommend the Isle of Skye pony trekking therapy center for a pony ride!

Absolutely beautiful home and location was perfect. Views from the home were spectacular and it had everything we expected. We were visiting with friends and it was their first time in skye, both the house and the island did not disappoint! Check in was seemless and communication was excellent. The host was very responsive and gave clear instructions. House had everything you needed for the perfect stay and we would not hesitate to return to the house.

Great location, one of the best views from a holiday home I’ve had the privilege of seeing. We were lucky with the weather but it’s in the most stunning location and the house is well designed to maximise the view (aside perhaps from the positioning of the BBQ, a v minor distraction). Well located for 3 good restaurants and a coffee yurt. Despite its name it’s relatively sheltered compared to many locations on the island.
