Great facility for a family getaway
My family and I had a short stay up in Skye and Cairnmhor was a great location to explore Skye from. The house is clean, tidy and very well organised, its spacious for 8 adults with comfortable clean beds. The house was beautifully decorated and everything was good quality. The best we can say is that when we return to Skye in a large group we will book again. What would make it even better would be small changes to the master bedroom mirror (for straightening and drying hair), clearer recycling information and add a small pod based coffee machine for guest use....

Very enjoyable stay in Cairnmhor House
We had a wonderful week at Cairnmhor House, in mid-August. On arrival, the property was very clean and tidy. The kitchen is very spacious and well equipped, and the bedrooms and bathrooms very comfortable and acceptable. The living room is also spacious and has a marvellous view across Portree Bay towards some mountains. The property is conveniently positioned, so that we were able to see everything we wanted to see on the island with only an hour or so's drive. My only reservations about the property is that many of the doorways and the bedroom corridor were a bit narrow for my electric wheelchair, and the wet room shower was a bit of a tight fit for my shower chair. Only the middle bedroom was accessible for me. That niggle apart, we were generally very happy with the property and with our stay there. In particular, I would like to praise the manager Ben, who couldn't have been more helpful in every way, clearly determined that nothing should stop us having a great time. I would definitely recommend Cairnmhor House to anyone else planning a holiday in Skye. I hope you have as good a time as we did. Jonathan, Cherry, Mum and carers

The perfect combination of beauty, comfort and location!
We are a group of friends travelling from Edinburgh to visit Skye for our first time. We stayed at John/Ben's accommodation and it was beautiful. The perfect central location on the island allowed us to reach all the main attractions very easily with out car. The house was very clean, provided with all the comforts, a very great option for a holiday with friend groups or family. The communication with John was great. John and Ben are great hosts and all of us give the highest rate as everything was perfect. We all strongly advise to choose John/Ben's accomodation for your trip. Francesca

Lovely place but not always helpful
Booked this place in 2019 for the 2020 Summer Half marathon. Unfortunately co-vid delayed plans. We were refused a cash refund and instead told we could book any other place whenever properties could reopen. We picked a later date however were told this would be another £314. We begrudgingly paid this as we could not go any other dates. We still really enjoyed our trip. The house was beautiful and perfectly placed to see the island and have local amenities for the evening. We were under the impression that a BBQ would be at the house however there wasn't one when we got there. After texting the owners they dropped one round the next day. Thank you! Really nice place but bit of a ballache organising it

Positives: Convenient and quiet location. spacious accommodation and garden, clean and tidy rooms,modern appliances. Negatives: lack of signposting to accommodation, old and modern rooms with mismatched furniture, musty smell in en-suite bedroom, old fashioned wallpaper, artex ceilings, loose plumbing in bath, dead flies on bathroom ceiling , unsecured microwave , rotten window frames and soffits, garden needs tidied up, remove garage door from hedge! Don’t let the negatives put you off. We would return. Constructive criticism provided to company. It is a lovely house that is crying out for just a little tlc!

Huge kitchen/dining room and large living room 2 very large bathrooms and 1 small one Great location -walkable to Portree Washer and drier look new Responsive management Lacks some essentials eg (salad bowl and salad servers) but management notified and responsive to correct This was a great location for a 4 nights to visit Skye - every hike we did was just a 20-30 minute drive away (Fairy Glen and Uig, Old Man of Storr, and Fairy Pools). It was nice to walk into Portree for dinner in the evenings.

We had a lovely stay at Cairnmohr. Everything was very clean; the beds were comfortable and the rooms were spacious. We did not use the living room much since the Kitchen table and chairs were very comfortable, and we cooked and stayed there most of our time inside. The owners were very responsive to our questions. It was a short walk into Portree town centre - 5 to 10 minutes with a pavement all the way. There was plenty of parking for cars. We were lucky with the weather and would not hesitate to stay there again. Thank-you!

Great accommodation, the room is very warm, the overall temperature is very comfortable, the room is clean, and comes with towels, hand sanitizer and other daily necessities. The location is very good, you can walk to the sea within 5 minutes. It takes 10 minutes to walk to the city center and 15 minutes to reach the large supermarket. The kitchen of the accommodation is great, very large and fully equipped. Very satisfying experience!

Positive: Location, cleanliness and the layout was fantastic for a family gathering. We were able to use all the rooms and spaces within the household. Negative: Absolutely tiny considerations such as the height of the mirror in the master bedroom, clearer information about the recycling facilities and a pod based coffee machine instead of the cafetiere. However all facilities were fantastic and of good quality. We will book again when we return to Skye.

Positive: Location was great, 5 minutes walk to Portree. Lots of parking outside property. All rooms good size. Decorated and maintained to a good standard. Good to have 3 bathrooms. Appreciated bottle of wine on arrival😀 Negative: Concept of Tablet with appliances instructions is great idea but needs to be kept up to date. Cooker is now different from the one shown on the tablet. Maybe I’m a bit dim but had know idea how to get the Induction cooker to work as have only ever used gas. Took ages to figure out and needed to Google the user manual to find out you need to have pans in place before it will work!!!

What a fantastic stay!!
Positive: Our overall stay was great. Our family of 6 stayed for 3 nights and was a great experience for our first time in Skye. The owners couldn't be more helpful, when asked for earlier check in they were polite and helpful. When we arrived, we didn't bring our highchair but they quickly accommodated us and we had high chair by morning. The house was very clean and had everything we needed. Was modern and pleasant decor, alongside a fantastic kitchen where we spent most of our time. Water pressure was great in ensuite, and great bath. Electric showers didn't have great water pressure but that didn't fuss the men. Great location in Portree. For our first time visiting Skye, we were unsure about where would be best but if you want to visit fairy pools etc then stay here! We seen golden eagles just outside Portree which was incredible. Negative: Heating didn't work on the last night which wasn't great when we have a baby, but worked every other night. Possibly a bath matt for baths would be handy for those staying with young children.

Jedoch wurde uns sofort nach einem Anruf geholfen! Topp Service. Die Küche hatte keine große Salatschüssel und wenig Töpfe zum Kochen. Ein kleineres Zimmer hat eine Badewanne deren Dusche aber nicht mehr richtig funktioniert (wird wahrscheinlich noch renoviert)

Negative: The room my husband and I stayed in was small in every way the ensuite, the bed and the room size. The bed was a small double and when trying to get into the room both myself and my husband jammed our fingers with the way the door was in relation to the wardrope door. It was definately an accident waiting to happen!

Positive: For once the photos were actually what we saw when we arrived at the accommodation!! It's been decorated and furnished to a very high standard. The location of the property is perfect, 5 minute walking distance to the town centre. 3 minute drive to a large Co-op They kindly left us a bottle of wine which is always a pleasant surprise. Kitchen facilities were great, clean and with everything we needed to cook for one evening. The property overall was very clean and has been well maintained. Negative: The dryer doesn't work very well. I put it on for 3 hours one night and some of the clothes were still damp. Apart from this, the property is great.

The roomy and well equipped kitchen dinning room. The location was great, so we could do radial incursions in the island. And since we avoided pubs and restaurants, to have a Co-op not too far away was critical. A special mention to the bath tub in the Master bedroom, which my husband and I tried once (separately!). Negative: Regarding the Master bedroom, some aspects of the shower: I'm the kind who doesn't let the water run in the shower, and because of the position (to near to the side wall) of the taps, I didn't have enough space to turn them on again with my soapy hands: I had to use the matt or towel to be able to grab it! And the shower box is unnecessarily far too small for tall people, like my husband. A hand towel rail near the basin would have been welcome.

The Cairnmhor House, Portree
Our party of 4 had a wonderful stay at the above property. The house is clean, spacious and properly maintained. The kitchen is huge and is equipped with everything that we needed. The beds are comfortable. The master bathroom and the common bathroom are very big and it was also very convenient to have the smaller ensuite bathroom in one of the bedrooms. We love to laze around in the living room which has a beautiful view of the lake. The house is located a very convenient and easy 10m stroll from the town centre (its a nice walk by the river too) where there are many cute shops, nice restaurants and a co-op for groceries. The host is very responsive and helpful in his communication from the get-go. He gave us many recommendations to good restaurants which enabled us to make advance bookings. I had a slight problem with the shower tap on the first day and contacted the host very early in the morning. He actually sent someone over to fix the problem before 9am! If we ever came back to Portree even with a bigger group we will choose the Cairnmhor House again because we are sure that we will have another great stay at the property!

Our party of 4 had a wonderful stay at Cairnmhor House. The house is clean, spacious and properly maintained. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything that we needed. The master bedroom mattress we found a bit soft but all the other beds are were very comfortable n the master and common toilets and baths were huge and the living room has a beautiful lake view. The house is located a very convenient and easy walk to the town centre (it’s a nice and pretty river walk too). The host is very communicative and helpful from the get-go. He gave us good recommendations to restaurants which enabled us to make advance bookings. I had a slight problem with the shower tap on the first day and contacted the host early in the morning and he sent someone over to fix it before 9am the same morning! If we ever went back to Portree even with a bigger group I will choose the Cairnmhor House again as I am sure that I will have another wonderful stay there.

Nice and warm house which is great after a cold day outdoors, beds are plenty comfortable and the kitchen is perfect for making up your own meals. Great central location while also offering space for us to spread out. Kitchen amenities were great for cooking. Bath in primary BR was lovely. Service response was helpful and quick. A few things to note- close to main road into Portree (so some road noise in primary BR). The iPad that has useful information was great, but the appliances must have been updated because the directions were not accurate to the actual appliances in the house. Not a huge issue, but we had to figure out the dryer. If you do decide to do laundry- it takes a bit of time- so plan accordingly. The other thing (just to note) is slow Wi-Fi, but that is likely just how it and what we’ve noticed in western Scotland. Overall really lovely stay and great hub to explore Skye for a few days. Lovely view of the bay and part of central Portree. For our family, much nicer that being packed into a hotel.

Positive: Code was provide to a key holder just outside the door. The house is nicely decorated and the kitchen is fully furnished with quality utensils. Clean linen and towels provided. Beds were neatly made up in all rooms. WiFi available. Huge and clean bathrooms. (as seen in photos) The house was nicely cleaned before our arrival. Had a question regarding the location and Ben immediately answered the phone and clarified. we got informative emails at every stage with useful info. Nice scenery looking from the house Negative: The location on Google is wrong and took us a while to get to the place. Ben answered the call and immediately provided pinned location. So not a problem. Minor issues with shower water pressure in one of the showers and some creaky floor under carpet. But these are minor issues which are easily overlooked compared to the other amazing things

This was absolutely a phenomenal house to stay in! It had the space we needed for two kids to be able to run around. And with walking distance into town. It was a great location. We were able to go from the house to anywhere in Skye on a day trip. Overall, it was wonderful! That said if I were to be very picky, there would be a few things I would do different. They have a tablet set up for when you arrive so that you can browse things to do restaurants etc. this do not work for the first four days. Also, please note that if you are going to do laundry, it is going to take you a long while. lastly, the coordinates that they sent to give us directions to the house was not accurate. So we spent some time searching for the house. But once we found it, it was easy to get there again and again and again. Overall, though it was a beautiful house, and a wonderful stay!

Ideal place near centre of Portree
This is a lovely place to stay. Glorious view from front of house and Large and welcoming reception areas. Plenty of room for 8 (large) adults. The situation is perfect. a short walk into Portree < 5mins and all its amenities; meaning you can have a drink without falling foul of Scotland's draconian Drink/Drive regulations. Highly recommend Fish restaurant in the Harbour.

Absolutely beautiful location, a short walk away from the shops of Portree, in a little private lot. Very spacious and clean. Great smelling soaps provided. The rambler style house itself was perfect for some of our party, which has a hard time with stairs. Great bang for the buck in terms of the price compared to comparable places in the area. The internet wasn't the strongest, but that was very minor in the grand scheme of things. Good communication and they were very flexible in working with us. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone!!

Just a 10 minute walk into Portree meant this was a fantastic location and a half our drive to most attractions on the Isle of Skye. My friends and I really enjoyed our stay at Cairnhmor House. The accommodation was spacious, comfortable and very well equipped for dining at home, if required. The location is a short walk into the town, and the house sits in a very peaceful setting with a wonderful view from the lounge. Our one query regarding the hob was dealt with very promptly and efficiently. I would suggest using the location reference provided with the booking reference, rather than the postcode, to find the house more easily. I can thoroughly recommend this property for a relaxing and comfortable stay in Portree.

What a beautiful house! It is located on a quiet side street and there is parking for several cars on the property. The city center is easily accessible on foot. The house is comfortably furnished, pleasantly warm and very clean. The kitchen is huge, but still cozy and very well equipped. Six people can comfortably sit in the living room. We felt very comfortable there.

Was für ein schönes Haus ! Es befindet sich in einer ruhigen Seitenstraße, auf dem Grundstück gibt es Parkmöglichkeiten für mehrere Autos. Die Innenstadt ist gut zu Fuß erreichbar. Das Haus ist komfortabel eingerichtet, angenehm warm und sehr sauber. Die Küche ist riesig, aber trotzdem gemütlich und sehr gut ausgestattet. Im Wohnzimmer kann man bequem mit sechs Personen sitzen. Wir haben uns dort sehr wohlgefühlt.

I would absolutely rent this house again. It was spacious and clean with a beautiful view of the harbour and within an easy walk of town. The kitchen was well appointed (just need a large fry pan for the induction stove) and all 3 bathrooms were modern and clean. I would love to visit this house again one day.

this place was great for large families... we were a family of eight. issues we had were there were no kitchen cupboards empty to store food, so we had to use a cupboard that had cleaning stuff in it. The kitchen is large enough, just not well organised. and no scissors! The en suite bathroom shower was not clean.... and also tiny for the size of the bathroom... I am not big but even I struggled with the size. It could also do with a self or more storage as we had to leave our toiletries in our bags. The main bathroom had a lot of hair in the drain which we had to remove. There were a lot of cobwebs in the kitchen especially above the cooker. Talking of which, this was really difficult to use. It was an induction hob and had no instructions. No dishwasher tablets for the dishwasher. Main bedroom had what looked like burn marks all over the carpet. Floor in the hall is very uneven and it feels like you could fall through it. Pros, big enough. warm enough, comfortable enough

Overall really happy with the property, the house was clean and roomy. Plenty of space for four children to around, including outdoor space. The location is perfect for quick walks into Portree and 30-60min from most touristic spots. More information on local restaurants would be great, as we found the ones you could book were fully booked weeks in advanced and others were walk in only, which made eating out harder. But we did get to try to local food during the day.

Positive: Great house for larger group, good location on the edge of Portree as a base for visiting Skye. Excellent facilities, well equipped, clean, warm and comfortable. High quality bedding and towels etc, Two modern bathrooms (plus older ensuite) and kitchen. Easy check in with key box. Plenty of storage space. Negative: Slight issue with the drains and shower flooding. Online booking system offered some contact and requested feedback but didn‘t respond directly when I messaged about the drainage issue which was disappointing but didn‘t impact on our overall enjoyment of the holiday. Kitchen was well equipped but could do with some additional glasses and breakfast bowls.

Somewhat difficult to find at first. But once here we enjoyed the spacious layout, the well equipped kitchen and the ensuite bathrooms. A cosy property that was easy to hear. Close to Portree town centre (5 mins, walk) and supermarket (20 mins walk) Not 5 stars as it lacked information on how guests were to use the property. On the pricey side for a property of this size and facilities.

Positive: Location of house (once we had located it !). Very comfortable home. Well equipped for self-catering. Amazing views from lounge. Negative: The wi-fi was pathetic. Our best measured download sped was just over 4 mps. That meant that we could not access any streaming services on the home wi-fi. Worryingly there was a part of the floor in one bedroom that felt that it was about to give way (accompanied by a smell of damp)
